They All Deserve Care

Sanchez has not had an easy life.

The 8-week-old kitten was brought to the shelter in a shoebox after being found outside all alone. Covered from foot to tail in sores from itchy scabies mites, emaciated, and exhausted from trying to survive on his own — Sanchez’s rescuer couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.

He arrived at Pet Alliance where he was able to begin the long road to recovery. Sanchez received his first medicated bath that provided instant relief to his irritated skin, he experienced the joy of wet food and a full belly, as well as received his first cuddles from shelter staff.

Scabies is fully treatable, but since it takes four weeks for kittens to fully heal, many shelters do not have the time or space to treat pets like Sanchez. Your gift today can help ensure they receive the care, compassion, and love they deserve.

Please consider making a lifesaving donation today. We need your support more than ever at this busy time.

$15 – Microchip 1 shelter cat
$25 – Test 2 kittens for FeLV and FIV
$35 – One month supply of kitten formula
$50 – Two cases of wet food (feeds 12 kittens)
$100 – Sponsors scabies treatment for one cat

It’s heartbreaking to think about the animals in your community who are struggling to survive.

And during the summer months, when thousands of kittens are born homeless and in desperate need of medical attention like Sanchez, there’s even more urgency.

Thank YOU for your support!

Feed The Need: Donate to the Pet Food Pantry

No pet parent should have to feel the panic and stress of prioritizing pet food purchases against a laundry list of other financial responsibilities. Especially if it means the difference between keeping their beloved pets or surrendering them to the shelter.

But as the spread of COVID-19 continues, so do these struggles for millions of families who are feeling the pressure of unemployment or reduced wages. With curbside pet food pickup event back in May 2020, we reached over 700 families in need and we were able to give away over 15,000 pounds of food

Still, 30 minutes before distribution was supposed to end, we ran out of food and, unfortunately, had to turn people away. Between the overwhelming turnout at the giveaway and the continued spike in Pet Food Pantry appointments overall, it is clear to us that there is still more need.

We are preparing for our second community pet food giveaway, but we could use your help with food donations so we don’t have to turn families in need away for lack of resources.

June’s Little Acts of Kindness That Made a Huge Difference

A Comfy Surprise!

Excuse us…. but the kindness in this room is astronomical!

Carol Getsee recently made these adorable and comfy quilted mats for our Sanford shelter cats. She dedicated her time and materials to create each quilt that is perfectly fit to the size of our kennels.

Even though our shelters are not open to our volunteers just yet, our community is still showing through in fun and unexpected ways for the dogs and cats, and we couldn’t not be more grateful. From the Sanford staff and all of us at Pet Alliance…

Thank you, Carol!

Cartful of Donations for Foster Kittens

THANK YOU to everyone who answered our call for kitten food this month!

This cartful of wet kitten food, dry food, and kitten milk replacer that has been graciously donated will help our fosters who are currently raising hundreds of kittens and preparing them for adoption.

Tiny kittens like Chloe who is PAWdeling this impressive haul thank each one of you who donated, shipped food, came in person to drop off items, or anyone who shared the cause.

Orlando’s Foster Care Coordinator Susan is in awe of your kindness saying while the need is ongoing during kitten season, this gift is a visual representation of support for these babies. It means the world to the fosters and helps make the hard days (and with underage kittens there are many) better because we have such kind and caring people in our corner.

Are you or is someone you know in need of Pet Food Assistance?

Continued Support for the Pet Food Pantry

Pet Alliance continues to be blown away by our community’s support of the Pet Food Pantry. After the success of our May Drive-Up food Donation Event where 700 households received free pet food, the need still was as prevalent as ever.

Our normal weekly Pet Food Pantry appointments were booked throughout June with families still in need, but our food supply was dwindling.

Thanks to our donors including a generous donation from local Pet Supermarket locations we were able to restock the pantry quickly and without turning away pet parents in need.

Charitable IRA Rollover — Turn your Savings into Lifesaving

If you make a contribution to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando through your IRA, you’ll be saving the lives of homeless pets and you’ll get great benefits, too!

A charitable IRA rollover is a wonderful option for people 70 ½ years of age and older. That’s because it allows you to make a gift to the animals — from $100 to $100,000 — and the distribution won’t count as taxable income. An IRA rollover is also a great option if you don’t normally itemize your charitable deductions. It is possible to give individual retirement account (IRA) assets to charity, free from federal tax, annually.

Commonly Asked Questions

Hover over the boxes for more information.

What’s a charitable IRA rollover?

A charitable IRA rollover is a direct contribution made from your traditional or Roth IRA to a public charity like Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. Your contribution is excluded from your taxable income and can’t exceed $100,000 per year.

Is my IRA rollover gift deductible?

No. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction. You will not pay any income tax on the gift either, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.

Who benefits most from an IRA rollover?

Those with significant assets in an IRA or those who don’t deduct charitable gifts benefit the most from an IRA rollover. Charitable IRA rollover distributions count toward required minimum distributions.

When do I need to make my gift?

We must receive your gift by Dec. 31 for your donation to qualify this year. If you have check-writing privileges on your IRA account, please mail your check by Dec. 20 in order to give us time to process your gift before the end of the year. Otherwise, please contact your financial advisor to find out how to make a gift via your IRA.

If you have additional questions about making a charitable IRA Rollover or planned giving, please contact Cathy Rodgers at [email protected]

Finding Sweet Seniors Homes

Michelle Chandler with one of her beloved cats.

Celebrating sixty years of life by helping sixty senior shelter pets, donor Michelle Chandler decided to celebrate her birthday a little differently this year. In honor of her 60th birthday, Chandler sponsored the adoption fees of 60 senior animals at both the Orlando and Sanford shelters.

Her passion is undeniable as she serves as a community advocate and a dedicated volunteer for Pet Alliance. Michelle has been volunteering with Pet Alliance since 2014 in roles ranging from kitty cuddler to administrative receptionist. Her hope this year was to do something a bit different when it comes to celebrating another turn around the sun. She just wants to help dogs and cats find their furever homes.

Help make her birthday wish come true by adopting a sweet senior. To see which animals are available for adoption under this promotion, check out the adoption profile of the animal and look for “Sweet Senior” in their bio.

21 Neglected German Shepherds Find Fresh Start in Central Florida

21 German Shepherds are now safe at Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

This weekend, Pet Alliance staff jumped to action after receiving a call that over 400 dogs needed to be rescued from a puppy mill in Georgia. At 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, four staff loaded into two vans and made the trek. The dogs were living outside in deplorable conditions at two separate locations.

When staff arrived, teams working onsite brought the dogs to them. One by one, each Shepherd was loaded into the van ready to be taken to safety.

At the shelter, the dogs were cleaned up and received lots of love and attention. Many of them are underweight and almost all are timid and a bit fearful. They spent their whole lives outside and with little human contact. Pet Alliance medical and behavioral staff will be doing a full assessment of all the dogs and providing them with what they need to get healthy and be ready for adoption.

Your support will ensure that these dogs will have the care and love they need. Thanks to you, we are able to care for these dogs and all of the other animals in our shelter. We could not do it without your support!

Pictured below are our volunteers showering one of our rescued German Shepherds with love, attention, and a much needed bubble bath, as well as an examination from our medical staff. Follow their story on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter!
