Our Commitment to Rescuing Animals in the Community

By Executive Director Kerri Burns

The problem of dog and cat overpopulation has existed for decades in Central Florida.

Animal homelessness is an issue that needs education and community assistance. For many years our community has been in the dark on the gravity and complexity of the issues that we are facing. Everyday sheltering, whether it be a county facility, non-profit, or rescue group, is a job that takes commitment and hard work. Communication and outreach is how we all make good things happen for the animals in this community.

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is calling on all who care about the welfare and well being of animals to work together for a common cause and not attack each other for different approaches.

Organizations do their best to work with each other and from the perspective of the outside it may not seem that way. Until there is a reduction in animal homelessness we will always have shelters and there will always be decisions to make. Please do not judge if you are standing on the outside. Be assured that we are doing our best to bring all able parties together in the best interest of the animals.

We are committed to raising the status of dogs and cats in our community. This is not a job we can accomplish alone. We need the community’s help. We have already reached out to local rescue groups and asked them to be allies in our mission.

On September 3, we will be hosting area rescue groups in an effort to open the conversation and create a dialogue between us and the community. In the end, the animals win, and that’s our mission: to educate, shelter, place, and heal pets and their families. Find out more about how you can help us achieve these goals.
