Being a Shelter Star

I choose to make monthly contributions to Pet Alliance because not only is it easier on my budget, but knowing how important it is for me to have a regular monthly income, I can only imagine how helpful it is for Pet Alliance to know they can count on my donation every month.”

Pet Alliance Shelter Star Jean talked with us about why she loves Pet Alliance and how giving monthly is the most rewarding giving option for her. Here’s Jean in her own words about her experience as a Pet Alliance Shelter Star:

Why do you give to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando? What do you love about Pet Alliance’s mission and in what ways do you see it implemented in the community?

It makes me feel better knowing that I am helping pets, especially pets in my own backyard, with my donations to Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. I love the mission of PAGO – to educate, shelter, place and heal pets and their families, and with highest professional standards. Their vision of creating more caring communities by promoting happier, healthier pets and their families really resonates with me as I know how much love these amazing animals have to give.

Why do you choose to give monthly as opposed to a one-time gift?

I choose to make monthly contributions to Pet Alliance because not only is it easier on my budget, but knowing how important it is for me to have a regular monthly income, I can only imagine how helpful it is for Pet Alliance to know they can count on my donation arriving every month. I also set it up for auto pay on my credit card, so I don’t have to think about it – I just know it will be taken care of, and it’s a pleasant surprise at the end of the year to see how much I actually gave! Then I turn around and apply for matching grants from my employer – which doubles my donations.

How does Pet Alliance make you feel appreciated and that your gift is being put to good use?

Pet Alliance makes me feel like a very special part of the family – and a part of the solution. I love receiving their thank you notes and newsletters because they tell me all of the good things all of our donations have accomplished. It’s nice to know that every donation, no matter the size, is making a positive difference in our community. They have several special events throughout the year that are also a fun and friendly way to spread the word and help – my favorite this year was the PAGO booth at the Miranda Lambert concert – lots of people came by with pet food and supplies and also made donations for a chance to win front row seats.  It was fun to meet the PAGO staff and other concert-goers who have a heart for animals.

Why do you think other people should become Shelter Stars?

Becoming a Shelter Star is an amazing way to make a huge impact for the pets in our area.  My dog, Dusty, and I were a pet therapy team for many years, and through that experience, I really saw what a difference the love and attention of a pet can bring to someone’s life. Then I think of how Dusty is always happy to see me when I come home, and how he senses and stays close by when I am having a bad day or guards me at night. It is my privilege to support Pet Alliance as they help nurture and save pets. I am very thankful to the team at Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando – I could not do what they do, so I do what I can do – which is being a monthly supporter.
