At Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, we have a fun way of showcasing our dogs. Our kennels have been renamed, Pawgwarts and our dogs are placed into one of four distinct “doghouses.” Our highly trained staff have begun assigning our dogs based on personality and behavior.
You may be curious as to why we have introduced our “doghouses.” It is simple. Scientific research has proven that visual identification of dog breeds is incorrect more than 70% of the time. We joined many progressive shelters around the country and removed breed labels from our shelters.
To encourage people to adopt based on personality, we are highlighting their individual personalities which are aligned to behaviors most prominent for their “doghouse.” Our team created a series of activities to allow a dog to be assigned by personality. Each dog house has assigned core traits that are listed for adopters. For example, a dog who takes to learning obedience cues quickly has the KNOWLEDGE of a Ravenpaw. A small dog who has the determination to climb the agility A-Frame possesses the AMBITION of Slobberin house. A dog that embraces new things has the BRAVERY of a Gryffindog. Finally, Hufflefluff is the dog house that most dogs possess some of the trait but is reserved for only the most affectionate happy-to-know-you dogs because of their FRIENDLINESS.
